Dumb antivirus/spyware question.....?

can i run cox security suite antivirus and ad-adware at the same time? my computer is running extremely slow and has a lot of pop ups (all my pop up blockers are on!) so i did an antivirus scan w/ cox security suite and it found no infections, then i did a scan w/ ad-adware and it found 688 critical objects? why such a big difference? oh, and one of the pop ups i keep getting is critical notice i think from micrsoft or somewhere telling me personal info is being viewed from my computer, would I like a free scan or to download the program? also someone told me to try AVG, but can I do that w/ cox antivirus and ad-adware?

first of all, don't download that program you mentioned (or run its scan) sounds like it's a Trojan. Research the name that appears for the ''program'' for instructions to remove it or repost here.

Download and run CCleaner (just run it with the default settings) then run the Ad-Aware scan again. You'll get a better idea what infections you have. http://www.ccleaner.com/

You didn't mention Spybot,

After updating switch to advanced mode, to do so select 鈥渕ode鈥?from the toolbar and check 鈥淎dvanced Mode鈥? it will ask if you want to switch modes, say 鈥測es鈥? Now you have multiple tabs on the left of the screen, select the 鈥渟ettings鈥?tab then click on the 鈥淚gnore products鈥?icon. Under the first tab 鈥淎ll products鈥?right click your mouse in the main screen and select 鈥渄eselect all鈥? Now click on the 鈥渢ools鈥?tab and click on the 鈥淚E Tweaks鈥?icon. Make sure that you check 鈥淟ock Hosts file read-only as protection against hijackers鈥? After its updated select the 鈥淚mmunize鈥?icon, click on the green + to immunize your system. This will help prevent any new spyware/malware infestation by blocking new items. THIS MUST BE REDONE AFTER EVERY UPDATE SO THAT YOU ARE PROTECTED AGAINST THE LATEST THREATS.
